A Decade of Decedance

Posted on Updated on

1 July 2013 marks the 10 year anniversary of the arrival of Roman Ambromavich as owner of Chelsea FC. His ownership has changed the face of not only English Football but of European Football.

I am not going to hark on about Chelsea’s successes over the last 10 years.

Having just won the FA Cup and about to embark on our Invincible season with a squad to die for,who needed a multi-billionaire,rather shady,Russian Sugar Daddy? We said we didn’t. All was rosey at Highbury, and we had an amazing new stadium to look forward to as well. In Arsene we trusted, end of.

Pre-Roman,there were really only 2 big EPL heavyweights. Man Utd and Arsenal. If we weren’t 1st we were 2nd. For the neutral having a 3rd team competing was healthy. But as Man Utd accepted they needed to step up their game on the field,we either wouldn’t, or because of the Emirates,we couldn’t.

With Mourinho at the helm, they swept all before them, only accepting the very best on the field regardless of any financial ramifications on themselves and others.

We all said Chelsea would be nothing if Roman decided to leave. Well,he’s still here having won every major club honour in that 10 years. Yes he has spent £1.5bn and gone through a plethora of managers, but their fans don’t care. They have been Champions of Europe whilst we looked on enviously.

Barcelona,Madrid,Bayern,Utd and Chelsea have won everything because they could splash the cash. City,PSG and Monaco will soon follow.

How Chelsea have gone about their business has at times left a real bad taste in our mouths (Cashley issue for example) and our self-sustainability model is to be applauded, but our cupboard remains bare, whilst Chelsea’s needs re-inforcing.

Now is the time for Arsene and the board to show us the money and more importantly show players agents and clubs too!

City will keep shelling out the £’s too. The top 3 Cash Clubs rule. You may all agree that for Arsenal to stay ‘close’ should be applauded especially achieving 16 years CL qualification. Half of me feels that way,but the other half says,if we don’t spend big, qualification is nice but we will never win the CL.

In 2013/2014 I want to see Arsenal compete better. It may not mean we will win anything but I want to see us to get closer to the Cash 3, further away from Spurs and be in cup rounds with a ‘final’ in their names. I don’t ask for much do I?

support the club no matter what, win or lose. Dennis bergkamp said – do you support the arsenal? or do you support the arsenal with trophies. We have always conducted ourselves with class and will continue to do so. victoria concordia crescit.
