A good win today.

Sunderland played right into our hands in the first half, they gave us far too much space in which to exploit. We created chance after chance, many of which we should have buried.

Fortunately we did bury one of our chances that ultimately proved to be the winner. Jack seemed to waltz passed the Sunderland midfield before laying the ball out to Theo who in turn laid it onto Santi, who placed a nice low shot past Fillet Mingnon.

I sat there thinking we are going to rue our missed chances, and we almost did. The 2nd half was going nowhere until Jack limped off and Jenks did what all inexperienced full backs do, and get themselves sent off with a stupid 2nd yellow.

Cue onslaught from Sunderland and it really was like the attack at the Alamo that Arsenal had to defend. Surely it was only a matter if time that our weak defence would cave. But for once, it held firm. Fletcher should have done better with one if his chances where he shot wide of the goal, but after that it was solid defending from stand in CB Sagna and great keeping from Chesney.

And that is something I haven’t said enough, Chesney held firm and made some crucial saves and more importantly gave our make shift CBs some confidence.

Even though down to 10 men, we could have scored more in the 2nd half, with Theo through for him to slot it past Fillet Mignon but strike the post. I personally thought Giroud did well to hold the line and give us much needed respite in the 2nd half, but he didn’t have his shooting boots on today.

Ramsey did well at RB showing Jenks how to successfully tackle Sessengnon, but Sagna was the standout. I’m glad for him, because recently he’s had a torrid time.

So a good 3 pts given Spurs’ Bale show and Chelski’s win. We stay in touch for 3rd/4th place.
